With the support and guidance of Mr. Isfandiyor Sadullo, Head of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and within the framework of the policy aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the field of telecommunications, the mutually beneficial partnership between the telecommunications administrations of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan continues to develop steadily. Practical cooperation in the efficient use of the radio frequency spectrum and the provision of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of radio electronic equipment is being further expanded.
In this context, the telecommunications administrations of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan have launched an important practical phase of activities to ensure the electromagnetic compatibility of radio electronic equipment in the border areas.
From 27 to 30 July 2026, joint measurements of the electromagnetic field strength generated by radio electronic equipment were carried out in the Surkhandarya Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the participation of specialists from both countries.
Under current conditions, one of the key challenges in the telecommunications sector is minimizing the propagation of unwanted radio signals and preventing their mutual interference in border areas. To this end, the parties implemented the following joint engineering, technical, and organizational measures:
• Radio monitoring and information exchange – conducting joint measurements of the electromagnetic field strength of operational radio electronic equipment in border areas and exchanging the obtained results between the parties.
• Optimization of telecommunications networks – based on the analysis results, reducing the propagation of radio signals into the territory of the neighboring state while maintaining a high quality of telecommunications services in border settlements.
As part of the joint activities, technical measurements were conducted at 21 base stations of mobile network operators in the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, field tests (test drives) were carried out along a route of approximately 500 kilometers.
The analysis revealed that the operation of 16 base stations of Uzbek mobile operators was affected by interference from the television network of the Republic of Tajikistan broadcasting on Television Channel 52 (TV Channel 52). To eliminate this issue, the television network was reassigned to another broadcasting channel, resulting in the successful restoration of normal operation at all 16 affected base stations.
Furthermore, technical measurements of television and radio broadcasting networks in the border areas were conducted within the framework of the joint activities. The measurement results confirmed that the operation of television and radio broadcasting networks complies with the applicable technical requirements, and no cases of harmful interference between the networks of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan were identified.
The implementation of such joint activities makes it possible to comprehensively assess the actual electromagnetic environment in the border regions of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan and to ensure the efficient and orderly use of the radio frequency spectrum. Most importantly, these measures contribute to improving the quality of mobile, television, and radio communication services for the populations of the border districts of both countries.
The close cooperation between the telecommunications administrations of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan in this field is another clear example of the friendly relations and constructive partnership between the two neighboring countries. It also provides a solid foundation for further strengthening bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and the efficient management of radio frequency resources.
