Creative and Tourist Trip of Journalists to the Badakhshan Autonomous Mountainous Province: Purpose and Outcomes

On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of State Independence, at the initiative of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and in cooperation with mobile operators Tcell, O Mobile, MegaFon, ZET Mobile, Babilone, and Anor, a creative and tourist trip for media representatives to the Badakhshan Autonomous Mountainous Province was organized.

The trip took place from 28 to 31 August. During the trip, the achievements of the communications sector in the years of independence in Badakhshan, as well as its historical sites, were highlighted. Media representatives became acquainted with the state of base stations and the quality of services of mobile companies in the districts of Darvoz, Vanj, Ishkashim, and the administrative center of the province – the city of Khorog. Journalists conducted interviews with officials and users of telecommunications about the achievements, challenges, and prospects of the communications sector in this part of the country.

It was emphasized that another part of the trip concerned tourism infrastructure. In this regard, the group of journalists visited the “Chorchaman” resort and the historic “Karon” fortress in the Darvoz district, which annually attract numerous domestic and foreign visitors.

In the Ishkashim district, media representatives learned about the history and current state of the “Qah-Qaha” and “Yamchun” fortresses, the healing properties of the “Bibifotimai Zuhro” and “Garmchashma” springs, as well as the museum of the famous poet and writer of the past century, Muborak Vakhani. They also held interviews with domestic and foreign tourists who had visited these places. As Badakhshan is rich in historical and tourist attractions and annually receives many visitors, ensuring telecommunications in such areas plays an important role in their promotion and popularization. For this reason, a key part of the journalists’ trip consisted of visiting and becoming familiar with the activities of mobile companies in this region of the country.

As observed, although the province is mountainous, compared to several years ago, the situation in the communications sector has significantly improved, as there are no longer electricity shortages in the region. Accordingly, telecommunications services are provided at the required level. Mobile companies have installed solar and wind panels, as well as diesel generators and batteries in various settlements, so that tourists and residents can access high-quality communications.

According to discussions with mobile company representatives, they plan to expand radio coverage by increasing the number of base stations and installing 3G and 4G equipment. It is also noteworthy that, due to the difficult geographical terrain of certain settlements, the company Tcell has provided satellite internet services to the population in several areas.

The organization of such events with the participation of a wide range of journalists allows the population to become fully informed about the level of telecommunications services in the country, helps to address existing issues, and ensures the dynamic development of the communications sector, which is an important part of our daily lives.
