An Important Measure to Improve Internet Speed and Other Telecommunications Services
During a creative and tourist trip to the Badakhshan Autonomous Mountainous Province, media representatives familiarized themselves with the installation process of poles for laying a fiber-optic line towards the People’s Republic of China and held discussions with responsible officials.
The installation of poles and connection of the fiber-optic line is ongoing in the Shamsiddin Shohin and Darvoz districts. According to officials, despite the complex mountainous geography of BAMP, technical and construction works are being carried out without delay. The laying of the fiber-optic line up to the border with the People’s Republic of China is being implemented within the framework of the Project for the construction of a high-speed backbone transport network along the route “Dushanbe – Kulob – Darvoz – Rushon – Khorog – Kulma.”
This project is being implemented with the investment support of the national telecommunications operator of Tajikistan, “Tojiktelecom.” According to the project, at the first stage, up to Darvoz district, separate poles will be installed along 182 kilometers, while in other sections the fiber-optic line will be laid using power transmission line poles.
The second phase will begin in early 2026 and is expected to reach the border between Tajikistan and China by the end of the year.
The objective is to establish a direct connection between the telecommunication networks of the Republic of Tajikistan and the telecommunication networks of the People’s Republic of China.
Such a direct connection will represent a significant step towards reducing costs and increasing internet speed in the country. In particular, it will enable telecom operators active in Badakhshan to fully develop their infrastructure in the region and provide high-speed internet to their customers.
In addition, this project is of great importance for ensuring access of the population and government agencies to stable and affordable fixed internet, which in turn will make possible the full implementation of online services, e-government, and the digital economy in the region. On the other hand, the expansion of fixed internet in the Badakhshan Autonomous Mountainous Province will reduce the load on mobile companies and help improve the quality of mobile communication services.
It should be especially noted that this initiative will lead to the establishment of additional international high-speed fiber-optic communication lines for connection to global internet networks. It will also increase the significance and transit potential of the country’s telecommunication networks and eliminate the communication isolation of the republic, particularly in the complex geographical landscape of Badakhshan.
It should be recalled that, at the initiative of the Communications Service in cooperation with mobile operators Tcell, O Mobile, MegaFon, ZET Mobile, Vavilon, and Anor, a creative and tourist trip for media representatives to the Badakhshan Autonomous Mountainous Province was organized from 28 August to 1 September. As a result, journalists visited the achievements of the communications sector and the tourist and historical sites of the province.
